dc.description.abstractAvailable data show that a great number of crimes are not reported in Mexico: most people think that reporting a crime is a waste of time, and moreover victims do not trust the judicial system. As a consequence, we do not really know the crime and the victims. Through the method of the main components, in this study we built, at state level, two variables which we which aim at explaining the determining factors of the crime reporting. Results can be used to improve the estimate of the number of reported crimes in Mexico pondering the current official data with the index obtained here.
