Syntactic maturity is the process in which a student of any language develops writing accurately, so that he is able to express his ideas accurately. To see if the process of syntactic maturity is reached, a variety of texts from newspapers was chosen, books, magazines, and articles. To achieve this task, a group of students of the Autonomous University of Yucatan and an undergraduate student of the University of Quintana Roo selected texts and organized the different fragments into segmentation and combination sentences. This work is based on recent contributions in applied linguistics on the teaching of any native language (L1); the changes on the generative-transformational grammar of Noam Chomsky, cognitive psycholinguistics studies and textual linguistics. The purpose of this project is to create two exercise books (a teacher guide and student workbook). Those books are supposed to be used in the class of reading and writing in Spanish, in thirteen schools of Colegio de Bachilleres in the state of Quintana Roo. The first product of this textbook could be extended to produce a second edition to be used in another course, which means the level of difficulty of the contents in the exercises will increase. The selected paragraphs come from different subjects like history, biology, literature, science, regional history, sports. Paragraphs are also taken from newspapers, journals and magazines to make this an up-to-date textbook.
